Character breakdown: STUFF

I’m playing the role of Vinny Who is a 15-year-old teenager. It is based inside of a hall which they are decorating and preparing for Anita’s surprise birthday party which is a girl who he really likes and admires. My first impressions are Vinny seems to be quite a laid-back, caring but soft and on edge character. He’s constantly focused on making this party special for Anita and making sure she likes it and everything is correct. He tends to feel uneasy and stressed when things don’t go his way as he’s trying his best to make Anita happy after the death of her father which was detrimental to her mental health and caused her to shut off from the world. So Vinny organises this party in order to make her feel better and more at ease. Upbringing of Vinny isn’t mentioned but going off based on how he acts he was clearly raised to be caring and chivalrous as he wears his heart on his sleeve and  sacrifices time for Anita and is quite selfless in the sense he sacralises his own time and mental clarity for her. Vinny’s friendships play a key role in the script and in his story. He works alongside them preparing the party and is constantly tryna resolve problems between them so they can give full focus. However, he seems closest to Frankie due to him being the person he constantly vents and talks to and shares his distresses and breaks down to him this indicates the strong and brother-like friendship between the two. Encapsulating the strong bond of Frankie and Vinny which plays a key role in helping Vinny cope by having such a strong connection. Additionally, Frankie being Anita’s best friend means a lot to Vinny he feels as if he’s speaking to her through him so he may find it easier confiding in him. He also shares a close bond with the rest of his friends such as Stace who feels empathetic and compassionate for Vinny’s situation however his bond with the others is not as strong but still play a role in helping Vinny organise the party.  Furthermore, Anita's father's passing has deeply impacted Vinny, who feels a profound sense of empathy towards her. His strong feelings for her, coupled with his desire to offer support, intensify the emotional connection he experiences. Vinny recognises the significance of being there for Anita during this challenging period, striving to provide comfort and solace amidst their shared grief. Vinny's grief over Anita's father's passing is amplified by his deep affection for her. Recognizing the impact of their emotional bond, Vinny sees an opportunity to channel his feelings into action. By organizing a party, he aims to create a space where they can both find solace and support each other through their pain. Through this event, Vinny intends to forge a deeper connection with Anita, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to being there for her during this difficult time. In sharing their grief openly at the party, they can find comfort in each other's company and strengthen their bond amidst adversity. Vinny's deep desire to support Anita in her time of grief propels him to organise the most meaningful and memorable party possible with the help of his friends. Driven by his deep affection for her, Vinny is determined to create an atmosphere of warmth and ease where Anita can momentarily escape the weight of her sorrow and find peace being in her party. Every detail of the party is meticulously planned to uplift Anita's spirits and provide her with a sense of joy amidst the darkness of loss. Vinny's dedication to organizing the event reflects his commitment to being there for Anita and his genuine desire to alleviate her pain, even if just for a moment. Together with his friends, Vinny spares no effort in ensuring that the party becomes a beacon of light in Anita's time of need, a true show to the depth of his care and affection for her. I also feel Vinny is wanting Anita to be there with him as said in the script she never leaves her home this is shown when Frankie says “ Basically, she’s gone home. Cos, she didn’t want to come out in the first place” this shows she has become isolated after the death of her father. So he wants to just be there with him hoping he can be a beacon of compassion for her and uplifting spirit.

Some flaws Vinny shows is that he tends to be quite apprehensive and stresses over small things and can become reactive and hurt easily as if he shares the pain of Anita this shows he is empathetic  to a point where it is toxic and causes him to get emotionally hurt and distress. I also feel how his great attachment to Anita causes him more pain as when she doesn’t show up he begins to sulk and become hopeless. Although this shows his deep values as he’s a passionate and morally correct individual unlike AJ who doesn’t care and is quite literally the opposite of Vinny. Vinny tends to constantly be occupied if he’s not working on the party he’s helping his friends sort out a issue he’s always trying to help and be there for others which sort of leads him to be hurt. He’s also a bit of a awkward individual who just stands around and is constantly stressing. One thing that makes him very different though is that he’s quite nonchalant about certain things compared to others such as when the story of Dani’s parent in the forest is being told it’s as if his mind is just occupied by Anita and Anita alone. Handling his emotions is difficult he tends to react easily and is very emotionally responsive rather than logical it’s a big let down for him when Anita doesn’t show up. It’s almost as if he feels he wasted time and energy and when he comes to his senses he begins breaking down.
