Unit 1: Part 1- Developing a well formed character

TASK ONE

A- The first warm up I will be talking about is Ninja which is my personal favourite this game is similar to tag but the rules are you must hit someone's forearm and you can only make one move whether it is a defensive move or offensive move and u can hit the person's to your right or left. The game starts of with everyone in a circle someone will go first and it will either move clockwise or anti clockwise when it is a persons go they can either move away from the danger or attack another player. The purpose of this game is to make you more alert and strategize more which wakes you up and get into the mood. From this game I have learned to be more observant of your surroundings and to try and form truces with other players.

The second game I will talk about is Splat a game I am terrible at. In this game everyone gets in a circle their is then a person is placed in the centre of the circle this persons job is to point their finger gun at a person that person will duck and the player too the left and right of them will be asked a question whoever answers it first stays standing and the other sits down the player who ducked may arise if they fail too duck when the gun is pointed at them they will be eliminated from the game. Eventually the game will come down too 2 people the 2 people will put each others back against each other the person who asks the questions will then say something random and they will take a step forward when the magic word is said they will both have to spin as quickly as possibly and shoot the other person with the phrase "SPLAT" whoever says it first is the successor.

B- A warmup which I think would be useful is.

RESOLVE:

Player 1:  Establishes an environment such as a kitchen, they start to improvise a scene and a problem occurs. Example: They can't find the ham they put in the fridge.

Player 2: Then comes into the scene and conflict arises. Example: An argument about where the ham is.

Player 3: Comes into the scene and resolves the situation. Example: Well never mind we could always have tuna, look I've just brought some!

The reason this works is that those who may wanna work in a smaller group have a warmup. This helps learners think about their characters as it allows them to improvise and get into the space of their individual their playing. This warmup will also allow us to improve our improvisation, problem solving skills and situational skills. Furthermore, it makes us learn too adapt too the environment our character may be in and how they may feel.

c- For my lonely hearts character I used skills such as playing someone of the opposite gender and someone who is more promiscuous, egotistical and fiery this allowed me too see through the eyes of someone who is the total opposite of me. This equipped me with skills such as improvisation and more confidence with playing characters of a opposite gender or personality. However some skills I used was my ability too see through the perspective of another character and trying too position myself in their day to day life. Whereas for my No context scene I played a much more emotional, timid and child-like character this one I found more easier as they were more empathetic than my lonely hearts character who were more rowdy and rambunctious. some skills I used for this character were improvising the situation and understanding their circumstance and how their more child-like mind affected their actions and outlook to certain situations.

TASK THREE

Character study

The role I played in the halloween tour was a ventriloquist this role was accompanied by a dummy who was played by Emily Spence. This was the following script:

Zia - now La maria tell our lovely audience all about us
Emily - with pleasure, I'll tell them EVERYTHING, well, once upon a time we were a happy couple
Zia - we were
Emily - and now we are an unhappy couple
Zia - we are (happy face)
Emily - but it doesn't need to be this way, you can set me free
Zia - I give you your voice, your personality, your life (powerful)
Emily - with you I have no life, I'm just your puppet (sad)
Zia - you are, and that's how it will remain (sinister)
Emily - help me (pleading)
Zia - be quiet (menacing)
Emily - help me please (pleading more)
Zia - don't make me shut you up for all eternity ......  (scary)

Alan interrupts here and moves them back

My character is presented as a narcissistic and sadistic character he feels little to no sympathy nor empathy for his dummy/wife. His outer presence gives of an eerie, demonic and uncomfortable vibe. whereas the inner presence is much more disturbed and darker and twisted. The need for his dummy/wife to be by his side shows attachment issues and how he is very controlling of her and lacks thoughtfulness for her. My character is also a disciple of the devil which gives off that demonic eerie vibe even better this shows how he his hungry for power and is willing to sacrifice his own wife for his benefit. Overall I think I portrayed this character well as I showed his sadistic and narcissistic qualities quite well and his lack of empathy to his wife. I ensured the audience knew this by using threatening tones and being quite aggressive when handling my wife as well as showing no concern for her emotions. The audience could see the fact that my wife was in pain this showed lack of consideration for her and how sadistic and twisted my character was towards her. The staging of my character changed over time it started of in a more formal manner and the deeper it got in my character got more aggressive and controlling and brought out his more evil side then at the end I showed little care and began to become intimidating and sadistic. The direction I was given was to be a more authoritative and smug character however I felt that my character due to being evil and controlling had to show a bit more of his narcissism and brutal ways of treating his dummy/wife this displayed his nasty ways more better as it showed his vengeful and manipulative side which was better than being more smug and authoritative.

TASK FOUR

PROMENADE THEATRE- In a promenade performance, the audience move to follow the performers around the space. Performances are often site-specific in interesting and unusual locations, even outdoors, rather than in purpose-built theatre spaces.

IMMERSIVE THEATRE- Immersive theater is a performance form emphasizing the importance of space and design; curating tangible, sensual environments; and focusing on personal, individual audience experience.

TASK 5

Overall, I think my performance went pretty well some good things are that I was able to do fit in the shoes of my character well and emphasised a lot on how they feel and how they would present themselves too the audience and crowd. I demonstrated sadistic and narcissistic behaviours towards my characters wife/dummy and showed little to no concern over the wellbeing or feelings of her. Furthermore, I tried to give of an evil/demonic vibe with the way my face look and the way I moved. This made the audience uncomfortable especially with the help of Emily who played my dummy/wife who played a traumatized in sorrow and pained character. The help of her character also helped encapsulate the despicable and evil behaviour of my character and how he is selfish and inconsiderate of her. However, some things I could improve on is I could've done more research and characterized my role a lot more additionally the tone and emotions were not shown as well as I could've done so which may have made my performance one of the dullest and worst in the group. The biggest mistake I made was a lack of projection in my actions and voice my actions were very limited and short and my tone of voice was much quitter than the others performances this was recognised by my peers who addressed this problem too me so the next time I may perform my projection will be much louder. Another thing which was assessed by my peers was my ability too connect with my character it was said that "it felt like someone else...not Zia". This shows how I was able to emphasis my character and get into my role much better what allowed this I think is how I tried too sympathise and empathise with my character and tried to method act him sometimes which helped get in my characters boots.
